Sonoran Sky Elementary School received the A+ School of Excellence designation from the Arizona Educational Foundation in the spring of 2015 and again in 2019!

Sonoran Sky is a center of high academic and personal achievement for every member, whether student, staff, parent or patron. At Sonoran Sky, students are challenged to think critically and incorporate 21st-century learning skills to master the grade level standards. We emphasize the importance of cultivating interdisciplinary themes and weave key skill areas into core subject matter.

We individualize instruction for students by utilizing flex groups, multiple intelligences, tiered lessons, curriculum compacting, project-based learning and individualized learning plans. Some of our unique offerings include a self-contained gifted (SCG) program, cluster grouping and honors pull-out in reading and math, our PILOTS Leadership Program in 6th grade, Sing America Sing Patriotic Musical in 5th grade, our Artist in Residency programs, spectacular Wonderland outdoor classroom and garden, including 5th and 6th grade outdoor garden blitz (study intensive for garden-based curriculum applications), and a comprehensive enrichment program before and after school.  

Sonoran Sky was the site of the first Self-Contained Gifted program in the District. Although all academic programs are self-contained, students are integrated with grade-level peers during special area classes, recess, lunch, and activities such as field trips, artist-in-residence programs, and outdoor garden classes.

To volunteer on campus, if you are a parent, stepparent, legal guardian or grandparent of a Sonoran Sky student, you must submit a Site Volunteer Application and Agreement each year. The pink form is sent home with students at the start of every school year. Additional forms are available in the front office.

If you're interested in becoming a Chaperone (volunteering outside the classroom on fieldtrips, overnights, etc.), you MUST have your background check and fingerprints on file with the District office. Click here for more information!
