Welcome to Sonoran Sky Elementary School in Scottsdale, Arizona. We’re so happy you’re joining our school community! Starting school or switching schools can be an overwhelming experience, even under the best of normal circumstances, but we're in this together and you've got a community to lean on. As families adapt to new schedules, procedures, people, and places, we also develop a robust and supportive community.
Get connected! Join Membership Toolkit and become part of our secure on-line community! Once you are signed up, you’ll also get our monthly newsletters, weekly reminders and volunteer requests!
Familiarize yourself with the basics: school hours, arrival and dismissal procedures, bus routes, lunch and recess schedules, student absences, classroom supply lists, EZSchoolPay student meal accounts, PVUSD district calendar, etc.
Join us at our monthly PTO meetings, the first Tuesday of every month. Most often, meetings will be held at school and may meet virtually based on need/scheduling conflicts. Check the PTO calendar for updates and Membership Toolkit for virtual meeting details and login information.
Join the Ambassador Program to meet current enrolled families who will help you learn the ropes.
Follow the PTO on social media to stay up-to-date on school and community happenings. Facebook is the fastest method for us to communicate, so we use it frequently. We have both a Sonoran Sky PTO public page, and a private group page where our PTO members can share photos and comments. We also have our Instagram page where we include fun posts and reels of school happenings and our gorgeous Wonderland Garden!
Make sure to update your emergency contact card and ensure that you receive District communications. Please go to Infinite Campus at portal.pvschools.net. Select More and then Annual Update. You may also click the Annual Update link on the Announcement Page. Need help? View our Annual Update Smart Card.

The Ambassador Program helps new families get acquainted with Sonoran Sky by providing parent-to-parent networking and opportunities to meet other Sonoran Sky families. Current Sonoran Sky parents will welcome your family to our school, answer questions and help you discover the many events, programs and volunteer opportunities that we offer. The program also sponsors several school-wide “play days” throughout the year.

Hopefully this helps cross some questions off your list.

You are welcome to walk your kids to the playground gate. If you do so, please do not park in the teacher parking lots. If you wish to walk your child to the gates, please park in the neighborhood and walk to the school. Make sure to use designated crosswalks and be safe!
It depends on what grade they are in.
Generally, 1st – 6th grade students are to be dropped off in the flow-zone (bus lane) along the large field on 75th Street, right before Corrine Road. The playground gate opens at 8:25am and closes promptly at 8:45am. Students begin lining up to enter the school building at 8:40am.
All kindergarten students and their siblings are dropped off in the parking lot that you enter off of Sweetwater. Traffic flows clockwise, pulling into the parking lot and immediately turning left, making your way around the lot to prevent traffic build-up on Sweetwater. Students MUST exit their vehicle from the driver side, the side closest to the sidewalk.
After drop-off, students head directly through the gate to the kindergarten playground, and older siblings walk along the front of the school to the big field. PTO volunteers help kindergarteners exit cars and walk to the playground every morning. If you would like to be a parking lot volunteer once (or twice!) a week, please contact volunteer@sskypto.com for more information.
Kindergarten students are dismissed at 3:10pm, while grades 1st-6th are dismissed at 3:15pm.
All students will be picked up as shown on the arrival and dismissal map. Students are NOT to be picked up by vehicles in front of the school.
Our complete arrival and dismissal procedures can be found here.
All students who are walking will exit the south end of the building and follow the sidewalk along the side of the building to the flagpole area. Students will not be allowed to exit through the front lobby.
If you are parking in the neighborhood and walking over to pick up your child, please wait to meet your student at the flagpole area in front of the school.
Students need to use sidewalks when walking home from school. Do not cross the parking lot areas. Students should only cross the street in designated crossing zones.
Bus transportation is provided to students within the Sonoran Sky attendance boundaries. Open enrolled students are not eligible for district transportation. Bus stops, locations, and times can be found here.
If parents wish to pick up their students from school early, they must be signed out through the front office. Only people listed on the emergency card are allowed to check students out; identification will be required. Signing out a student early may affect attendance. Students will not be called out of class until the person picking them up is in the front office.

If your child has allergies or medical needs that the school should be aware of, please contact Nurse Amenson. Each situation is slightly different and our school works with families to ensure students have the safest and best possible learning environment. Please notify the nurse of any chronic illnesses or special health needs as well.
We welcome visitors at Sonoran Sky, however, please check with your child’s teacher before visiting or volunteering. Also, make sure you have a PTO name badge! A badge is required for volunteering on campus. Order one here!
To volunteer on campus, if you are a parent, stepparent, legal guardian or grandparent of a Sonoran Sky student, you must submit a Site Volunteer Application and Agreement each year. The pink form is sent home with students at the start of every school year. Additional forms are available in the front office.

We host a Meet the Teacher event every August, during which students and families will have the opportunity to meet their teacher, explore their classroom, and introduce themselves to new friends! Stay tuned for additional details as we get closer to the event.
Our school thrives on parent and community involvement. There are many ways to get involved. Pick what works best for you! You can…
You’re already a member! How cool is that?!! There are no membership fees to join the SSKY PTO; therefore every parent and guardian of every student is automatically a member with an equal voice. Like all public schools in Arizona, we do rely heavily on the generous financial support of our community, and if you are in a position to give, it is greatly appreciated; but, never a condition of participation in your PTO.
A District calendar can be found here. You can always reference the PTO calendar as well, which includes these events and Sonoran Sky specific events as well.
