Dirt Day @ Wonderland Garden
We have big and little jobs for mom thumbs, dad thumbs, kid thumbs, teacher thumbs, community thumbs, and friend thumbs… as long as they are not sore thumbs! Dirt Day is a thumbs-up fun morning of community involvement on September 16th at our wonderful Wonderland. Gates open at 6am but please feel free to come down anytime during the morning hours and stay as long as you’d like, this is a family friendly morning. We need muscle and wheelbarrows! Please, if you have a wheelbarrow bring it with you, it will be so helpful.
Can’t make it on Saturday but want to still help out with our Wonderland Garden?
We have some dates that you could help!
Starting in October we will have work day on the first Friday of every month.
We are also responsible for putting up the umbrellas in the garden every morning.
We help with preparing classroom materials for Mrs. Klein, the Master Gardener and Garden Teacher on an “as needed” basis.
There are also opportunities to help during class time.
**First Workday….Friday Oct 6th after drop off.
The 6th Grade Blitz Week is also that week so Karen may need extra help.
Thank you, Kim Tuite

Dr. James Webb on the topic of
”Understanding the Social and Emotional Needs of Gifted Children”
Thursday, September 28, 2017 6:00-7:30 p.m.
District Administrative Center-Governing Board Room
All parents and teachers are welcome to attend.
Dr. Webb’s presentation description:
A widespread myth about gifted children is that, because they are bright, they can simply “make it on their own.” However, the characteristics of gifted children—combined with current educational practices—often put them “at risk.” The social, emotional, and interpersonal needs of gifted/talented children can result in significant problems if these children are not understood and nurtured. This session describes how characteristics of gifted children relate to their social/emotional needs, interpersonal and emotional styles, and frequent difficulties. This information will help parents and teachers understand why gifted/talented children experience peer difficulties, underachieve, challenge or rebel against traditions, or show patterns of perfectionism or depression.
Hope to see you there!
Dina Brulles, PhD Director of Gifted Education
This year SSky Students and Teachers are able to dress up on October 31st at school. Yes, you are reading this correctly. To kick off our First Annual Read-a-Thon Fundraiser that will be going on from October 31st through November 14th, Mr. Dawson has given the green light to allow everyone to dress up on Halloween, but there is a stipulation… You must dress as your favorite book character and you must bring the specific book (or a copy of the book cover) to school on Halloween to share with your class about the character.
All costumes must be age appropriate and no weapons of any type should be brought to school
Be on the look out in the next newsletter for a great DIY Book Character Costumes List
