Team Thunderbird – Back to School Drive In August, we ask our families to join Team Thunderbird right away in order to ensure we can continue the many unique PTO supported programs at Sonoran Sky, including the Wonderland Classroom and Garden, Artists in Residence, classroom magazine and software subscriptions, technology updates, the SkyWriters’ Secret Garden publishing lab, and other capital improvements. Team Thunderbird also provides the funds necessary for our signature events like Movie Night, Science Fair, STEM Night, and Art Walk, to name just a few! Other Fundraising Opportunities throughout the year include:
Read-a-Thon – In November, our Read-a-Thon gives our extended family, friends, and neighbors the opportunity to support public education by sponsoring a child’s reading journey. This fundraiser is typically associated with a larger identified need at our school. The past two years’ proceeds from our Fall Fundraiser built our award-winning Wonderland Outdoor Classroom, Garden, and Amphitheatre. Future identified improvements may include updated playground equipment, soccer goals, additional outdoor sunshades, and a modern theater sound system.
Cantina Night – This adults-only evening event gives parents, caregivers, and community partners an opportunity to socialize in a fun setting while also supporting our school. To make it even easier to get out of the house, we organize a Kids’ Night Out on the same evening.
Community Business Partners – We solicit donations from area businesses as a channel for business owners to support an excelling local public school in exchange for advertising and exposure to our grateful community. Interested business owners can contact email@example.com.
Other Incomes – Additionally, we have several smaller streams of revenue, including clothing and yearbook sales, Enrichment classes, the Carnival, the Book Fairs, food trucks at STEM Night and the Art Walk, Box Top collections, and other similar retail activities.
Where Does the Money Go?
We encourage you to participate and give as you are able, to the benefit of our children. Each year, the total amount donated by parents is invested in the current school year. The PTO takes pride in being good stewards of your donations, and we encourage you to attend our open PTO meetings the first Tuesday of every month at 7:45am in the school library to see firsthand. Every parent is a member of the PTO, and we welcome your insight, experience, and opinions as we work to improve education at Sonoran Sky.
